Tōtara Classroom Opening

We had the official opening of our new classrooms.

A lot of important of guests were invited. 

People who had helped us to get, design, 

and build our new classes.

We celebrated... 

with our Kapa Haka group singing,

planting a new Manuka tree in our little garden,

and a walkthrough 

to show our gorgeous new rooms.

What a great way to start Term 3.

100 days of school...

She made us cupcakes to celebrate!

Pink Shirt Day

Pink Shirt Day

Today was National Pink Shirt Day.

We have been sharing and talking about 'Kindness' this week.

The whole school celebrated together on the courts by making a large heart.

We had fun dressing up and making stars, hearts and armbands 

out of pink paper to join the celebrations.

Our new 'Chapter Chat' book this term is

Look at all the students and their families who have worked on their home challenges.

Some have...

 researched tornadoes

designed robots

and been artists.

We are looking forward to this week's home challenges.

Takahe hub, are reading the Iron Man story by Ted Hughes.

On Friday we joined 'Chapter Chat' on Twitter, with other Year 3 and 4 schools across New Zealand.

We shared our thinking, answered questions, and shared photos of our Home learning tasks. 

We can't wait to read the next two chapters.

School - Past and Present

We had a look at various articles, books and videos...

then we had to think and talk about what school was like in the Olden Days.

Here are some of our ideas.

The Past

• They learnt how to shoot guns
• The boys wore suits and the girls wore dresses
• They drank milk and got apples every day, hot milk
• They practised writing on stone slates
• There was no gateway
• Most people left school by the time they were 14
• Putikitiki did not have a playground, it was flat.
• Reading the school journal
• 40 people in one class
• A rugby pole on Putikitiki was cut

The Present

• New buildings
• TV’s, computers, iPads, Chrome Books, laptops, projector, screens
• We don’t have to wear a uniform
• Pens and paper
• We are safe
• Clocks
• More colourful
• Youtube
• Library
• Air conditioning, heaters
• Putikitiki has a playground

We used a Venn diagram to think about the 

Past and Present, and compare what is still the same.
