Wellbeing Wednesday - Rā apa Hauora

Kia ora whānau,

On Wednesday 1st September 2021 we enter into Alert Level 3. We hope that you have been able to adjust to the different challenges of lockdown and that you have had opportunities to enjoy the very special moments of family time.

As a school, we have made the decision to join many schools across New Zealand in having a Wellbeing Wednesday. On this day, there will be no new digital learning set.

This will be a day away from more formal digital learning. Students will have an opportunity to learn offline and engage in a range of non-digital activities. They might be tasks that your children would like to do together or alone, or they might want to do something else entirely.

This day is an opportunity to support students and teachers well-being. It is a time to recognise and focus on emotional wellbeing in these challenging situations. We can all do this by providing opportunities to connect, be active, notice, keep learning and give.

Terrific Tuesday

Ko tēnei te rā e toru tekau o ngā ra o Hereturikōkā.

Wow, It's the last day of August - I can't believe how quickly time is flying (Hmm... does time fly). When we started school this term it was Hōtoki (WInter) and while we have been in lockdown the seasons have changed and Mahuru is upon us. On my walks, I have seen lots of new flowers out like Kōwhai, Daffodil, and Magnolia. What changes have you noticed?

Do you remember what happens in Mahuru (Spring) on our maramataka? It's time to think about planting kai. Have you got a garden at home? What are you planting? I was lucky enough to get some sweet pea, spinach, zucchini, and pansy seedlings.

Thank you so much for the akomahi you are posting on seesaw. Remember you can also send me pictures (atao@hameast.school.nz) and I can add them to our blog or seesaw. Here is a collage of some of our pets or stuffed friends - I still think Venus my flytrap is the most unusual.

There are also a lot of activities you can do offline and there are some great learning programs on ...

Week 6 - Akoranga Kainga - Monday Home Learning

I hope you and your whānau are keeping healthy and well. It is normal to have lots of different feelings when we are in Lockdown. The best thing is to understand how you are feeling and what you can do to cope with that feeling. It also helps to talk to someone you trust about how you are feeling. I went for a walk in the bush and created my Papatūānuku Space when I was feeling a bit overwhelmed - it helped lots.

Week 6: Create your own Papatūānuku space like the one we have in our classroom.
Here is mine - you can go to our Seesaw activity for the descriptions.

I have received some great activities and akomahi (work) so far. If you are unable to do akomahi on a device there are lots of unplugged activities you can do on this blog - take a picture and send it through to me via seesaw or email atao@hameast.school.nz

Here are some amazing crafts that Malia has been busy with.

For Seesaw you will need to download the Class App and then use the sign-in text code. Please ask your tamariki to take a picture of themselves in their favorite spot and add it to our ‘Special Spots Activity’.

I will be online from 9.30-11.30 and then again from 1.30-2.30 if you would like any further assistance to set your tamariki up for online learning or to answer any questions. I look forward to reconnecting and receiving some very cool pics.
